Recent studies conducted in a deterministic unit commitment setting have demonstrated that adaptive topology control can be very effective in reducing dispatch cost and as a corrective measure in response to contingencies. In this paper we adopt topology control as a recourse measure within a stochastic unit commitment optimization. Our goal is to produce a demonstration study based on a stylized IEEE 118 bus test network which will enable us to assess the viability and merit of the proposed approach. The talk describes the mathematical formulation of the problem along with computational strategies that combine optimization techniques with line switching heuristics. We then describe results of our numerical experiments on IEEE 118 system that verify the cost saving potential of our proposed approach.
