Quantum spin systems exhibiting topological quantum order exhibit a peculiar entanglement structure, first described by Kitaev & Preskill, and Levin & Wen. In this talk, it will be explained how the corresponding topological entanglement entropy relates to quantum symmetries of the tensor network description of those systems, and how those symmetries affect the edge physics of the system in a very explicit way.
