This talk will provide an introduction to multiscale modeling and simulation that includes a discussion of various multiscale simulation methods, common pitfalls in mathematical formulations, and guidelines for reliable numerical implementation. The overview will be followed by a potential roadmap for the construction of a multiscale simulation model for Li-ion batteries that would take into account the evolution of porous electrode structure and heterogeneous blocking of electrode surfaces.
