Unlike many turbulent boundary layers, the ocean surface boundary layer is forced from above (leading to a tendency toward stable stratification) and is bounded by a multi-fluid interface filled with wave energy. How do these waves affect the turbulence in the boundary layer? How do these waves affect the rotating, stratified features, such as fronts and instabilities?
