Social Media is radically changing communication paradigms on the Internet. Beyond publishing content, it enables users to engage in conversations and form tight knit communities, and now constitutes a prominent subset of the Web. Social Media takes different forms, be it blogs, podcasts, wikis or the emerging micro-blogging platform and presents interesting challenges for content mining. In this talk we discuss these directions by presenting specific projects pursued at UMBC.
