Calabi-Yau integrable systems, matrix models, and open strings

We explore the behavior of Calabi-Yau integrable systems under geometric
transitions. This leads to a mathematical interpretation and to compact
analogues of the recent work of Dijkgraaf-Vafa, and connects with the
calculation of open string invariants.
