This talk will present an overview of recent exciting developments in the construction of erasure-correcting codes for distributed storage including regenerating codes and codes with locality for both single and multiple erasures. While the theory in this discipline has evolved primarily with the goal of improving reliability during storage and retrieval of large amounts of data across a wired network, the talk will include comments concerning the relevance of this line of research to the development of wireless networks.
