Royal Medal Awarded to Terence Tao

The Royal Society awarded UCLA Professor Terence Tao the 2014 Royal Medal for his “many deep and varied contributions to mathematics.” The Society’s fundamental purpose is to “recognise, promote, and support excellence in science and to encourage the development and use of science for the benefit of humanity.” The awards, also known as Queen’s Medals, will be presented Dec. 1. Tao is a member of IPAM’s Science Advisory Board and has been a speaker, organizer, and participant of many IPAM programs.
